Best factoring companies for a growing fleet, compared on what each one publishes
By Edwin Horton, Truck dispatcher · Updated
Disclosure first: we refer carriers to RTS Financial and may be paid for referrals. To keep that from shaping this page, every company below gets the same eight fields, filled only from its own website, and the cards are in alphabetical order, not ranked. See our disclosure.
Lists of the best factoring companies are everywhere, and most rank companies without saying why. This one doesn't rank. It compares what each company publishes on the terms a growing fleet cares about, so you can decide which ones to ask for quotes.
How we compared
Companies: five factors that carriers commonly name and that publish carrier factoring terms: Apex Capital, Bobtail, OTR Solutions, RTS Financial and Triumph. We tried to include others whose sites we couldn't read when checking; they may still be a good fit for you.
Source: each company's own website only, read on October 19, 2026. No review sites, no sales calls, no numbers from third parties.
Fields (same on every card):
- Published factoring rate
- Advance
- Recourse terms
- Contract term and minimums
- Choosing which brokers to factor
- Funding speed
- App
- Fuel card
Rule for blanks: if a company doesn't publish a field on the pages we checked, the card says so. A blank isn't a bad mark. Most factors quote rates privately, after underwriting.

Reading the cards
Three patterns stand out. First, rates are almost never published; four of the five quote privately, so the cards can only tell you who to ask, not who is cheapest. Second, the contract fields vary the most: some companies publish no minimums or a trial period, others publish nothing on terms at all. A blank there is the first question for your sales call. Third, "instant" funding claims usually come with conditions, such as eligible invoices or payment into the factor's own account first.
What the cards can't show: how each company handles disputes, how fast its people answer the phone at night, and how hard it is to leave. Ask a carrier who has left each factor, not just one who stayed.
EXAMPLE A four-truck fleet wants no minimums and the right to keep one fast-paying shipper out. From the cards, it asks Bobtail and Triumph first, since both publish broker choice and no minimums, then asks the others whether they allow the same in writing.
Best by situation
Again, first: we may be paid when you request an RTS Financial quote through us. These picks follow only from the published fields above.
- You want a published rate ceiling before talking to anyone: Bobtail is the only one of the five that publishes one (a 3.24% maximum).
- You want to keep fast-paying brokers out: Bobtail and Triumph publish that you choose which brokers or loads to factor. Ask the others directly.
- You can't risk a monthly minimum in slow months: Apex, Bobtail and Triumph publish no minimums.
- Broker bankruptcy is your biggest worry: OTR Solutions, RTS Financial and Triumph publish non-recourse terms. Read each one's covered events; they differ.
- You need cash outside banking hours: OTR Solutions publishes 24/7 instant funding, Triumph funds eligible invoices in minutes, and Apex offers 24/7 funding to qualifying clients.
- You want approval from your brokers' credit, with an app that rates brokers: RTS Financial publishes both RTS Financial approval basisBased on your customers' credit, not your balance sheet; not a loan; limits depend on buyers' creditworthinessRTS Financial FAQ: freight factoring is not a loan; the capital is based on the credit of your customers, not your balance sheet, so there is no new debt. My own view: for a fleet adding trucks, the contract fields (minimums, term, choosing brokers) matter more than the last half-point of rate. A cheap rate in a contract you can't leave gets expensive the day you outgrow it.
Questions to ask every factor
- What is my rate, and is it flat or tiered by days outstanding?
- What's the advance, and when are reserves released?
- Recourse or non-recourse? Which events are covered, and what's the chargeback window?
- Contract term, auto-renewal, notice window and early termination fee?
- Monthly minimum, and the penalty for falling short?
- Can I choose which brokers to factor?
- Every fee beyond the rate, in writing?
- Funding cutoff times and weekend funding?
- Can each driver upload under my account?
- Will you buy out my current factor?
Then run each quote through the factoring rates forecast to compare the all-in monthly cost.
How to switch later
Picking a factor isn't forever, but leaving takes steps. In general: give written notice inside your contract's window, get a payoff letter, let the new factor buy out open invoices or wait for them to clear, then make sure every broker receives the old factor's release and the new factor's notice of assignment. Ask for the UCC filing to be terminated once nothing is owed. This is a plain overview, not legal advice. Our guide to factoring contracts and buyouts covers each step and an exit cost estimate.
Company details change. We'll recheck these cards at least every six months; tell us through the contact page if a company changes its published terms.
Choosing a factoring company
01Which factoring companies work best for small fleets?
The ones whose terms fit how your fleet grows: no or low minimums, the right to choose which brokers to factor, volume pricing as you add trucks, and an app every driver can use. Several companies publish some of these. Compare them on the same fields, then get quotes in writing.
02What should I compare before signing with a factor?
The all-in monthly cost (rate plus every fee), the advance, recourse terms and covered events, contract term and notice window, monthly minimums, whether you can choose brokers, funding speed and cutoffs, and how drivers upload paperwork. Ask for each in writing as part of the contract.
03Is non-recourse always better?
No. It usually costs more and covers only specific credit events, such as a broker's bankruptcy. Disputes, claims and paperwork errors stay with you. If your brokers are large and reliable, recourse may cost less overall. If you have big balances with smaller brokers, non-recourse protection is worth more.
04Do factoring companies charge hidden fees?
Some charge fees that aren't in the headline rate: transfers, credit checks, setup, minimums, early termination. Calling them hidden is fair only if they're missing from the contract. Ask for the full fee schedule before you sign, and compare quotes on total monthly cost.
05Are factoring reviews reliable?
Treat them as one signal. Review sites mix real clients with promoted ratings, and unhappy customers often write about contract exits rather than funding. Read the negative reviews for patterns, such as trouble leaving or surprise fees, then check those points in the contract.
